We’ve loved Canal House Cooking since it launched in 2009. Created and self-published by two home chefs, each book in this cookbook series is made with care, beautifully presented with unique (and do-able) recipes. We treasure our copies, but we also like to give subscriptions as gifts–new books are released three times a year, but every little book is full of enough surprises to last throughout the months in-between. (Single books can also be purchased on amazon.)

The latest volume arrived in the mail recently, with the promising theme “la dolce vita.” We’ve already found a couple of recipes we’d love to use for the holidays, including the gorgeous apple cake and the peppers in agrodolce, both seen above. While there’s no substitute for the book, we love that the folks at Canal House accompany each of their new releases with a free pdf on their website, that includes a selection of new recipes. Both the cake and the peppers can be found there.
