We stumbled on the image above at Aqqindex and were instantly smitten at the opulent beauty of the muralled wall. At first we thought it was a collage. Then we found a second image and had to find out what the notation “Dreaming Walls” meant. Our hunt took us to an extraordinary series of photographs by Lucia Ganieva of a wonderful anomaly in home decoration.

In a small, remote village in the Udmurt Republic of Russia, the interiors of practically every home in the village feature room-size photographic murals of “exotic” distant lands that the home-dwellers will never visit, except in their dreams”.

The photomurals present expansive vistas that are juxtaposed against the colors, patterns and textures of the inhabitant’s furniture and home decorations.

We’ve often imagined —and have posted —putting some cool landscape mural on a wall to open up a room (as well as places to buy or make huge murals). But we NEVER imagined the likes of this. Crazy-beautiful!
