The other day at Opening Ceremony, we came across some spectacular earrings: little fur pom poms dangling from thin gold wires. WANT, we thought. And then, MAKE. That’s usually our second thought, which starts us researching materials and processes so we can decide whether to follow though or file the idea for future use. We discovered that pom poms, both fur and fake, can be easily bought and hold huge possibilities.
And then we found we’d unknowingly tapped into the zeitgeist.
Ambling across 125th Street in Harlem, we came upon several street vendors that were selling homeboy caps…topped with a big pom pom!

…Wonder who thought of that embellishment to the classic cap, the perfect ying-yang balance…

…Wondrous street fashion…though, come to think of it, we haven’t yet seen anyone wearing one…yet.

We got kind of philosophical: What IS a pom pom? Who thought of such an amazing thing?
We found all sorts of pom pom creations on Etsy, like this hat with a pom pom nearly as big as a head at HandMadeKnitsHats…

There is something really beautiful about wearing a single furry pom pom on the very top of your head (a Crown chakra empowerment thing, maybe?)

FurFashion at Etsy has all sorts of pom pom jewelry, from necklaces…

…to bracelets to earrings to rings, not to mention key chains and fingerless gloves…
