At Chai Wali, Harlem’s hot new Indian restaurant in a historic brownstone, we saw a wonderful treatment for its ancient painted brick walls. It was much more interesting than a plain stripped brick wall, and would be a fine technique to apply in a living or work space.

The paint was scraped and etched with a sharp implement to make a swirly, twining, curiously-pleasing pattern, as though covered with vines or remnants of a ancient runes.
It showed-off the structure’s age in a fun, modern, graffiti-like way…
