Now that it has sunk in that mandatory wearing of masks will be with us for some time, masks are moving beyond surgical and bandana-ish into serious style and design. There’s been a boom in independent mask-makers. Etsy features so many mask options, wading through them can make your head spin.
The best round-up we’ve seen is by Vogue magazine, whose editors compiled 100 variations on the theme of masks, some quite beautiful, from $5 to $80 dollars.
Our favorites:
The Roopa Pemmaraju hand-embroidered reusable face mask, above, is a minor work of art…
Kit Made hydrangea reusable face covering

…girly Lele Sadoughi masks

…VPL assorted Japanese vintage cotton masks

Tabaracu Swim black floral face mask

…Narces gold lace organza mask

…Même Chose the Cuomo face mask

We’re thinking GREAT. Nice looking masks will be a welcome relief from the stark strangeness of surgical masks and those black Darth Vader-ish ones. Once we get our act a little more together, maybe we’ll figure it out…
We’re glad to have Vogue’s roundup as a guide. But if you’re game, it’s worth browsing Etsy. Check out Jayne Blum’s swell vintage neck tie masks, 20% off through this link with code MASQUERADE.
