This short video from the Wolf Conversation Center has no commentary.  Just two wolves sleepily howling in response to howls from faraway.

It seems like a kind of singing.  Howls weave into music of strange beauty and harmony. Primal. Wild.

It’s the poem we needed for today.

The only human we know that sings like that is Meredith Monk, who has spent 50+ years pushing the human voice into wild areas…

In the first 60 seconds of this video, she sings as forthrightly as the wolves and with amazing similarity…

…As she does in this piece from the great Dolmen Music

Education of the Girlchild: Travelling from Dolmen Music.

(Then we tried playing it at the same time as the wolf songs…)

These days, we’re finding WILD energizing and affirming.
