Perhaps the most heartening victory of the fiercely contested national election is the record-breaking turnout of voters braving long waits and the coronavirus to exercise their VOICE. We can think of no better celebration than the song Patti Smith wrote in 1988 with her husband Fred “Sonic” Smith, singing it here.

People have the power
The power to dream, to rule
To wrestle the world from fools
It’s decreed: the people rule
It’s decreed: the people rule

Thirty years later, Smith is still singing “People Have the Power”, here with U2, (with a fitting preamble of “Gloria”…), in pure celebration…

Three decades later, as Smith has aged and grayed, the power of her words has held strong.

I believe everything we dream
Can come to pass through our union
We can turn the world around
We can turn the earth’s revolution
We have the power!
