We can’t know the deeper meanings of this spectacular jumping dance performed by young Maasai warriors as part of a coming-of-age ceremony. We love the forthright vitality, energy, joy of it, a feeling we want to have starting each day. It got us thinking about Ikigai, the Japanese concept we wrote about a couple of years ago, which means, roughly “your reason for being”: the qualities and activities and focus that give value and energy to your life. In other words,

What makes you jump out of bed in the morning?

We’re holding that question in mind as we navigate our days, finding the answers in the activities that enliven — and those that don’t — fuel for our own big-joy jumping dance.
