After fifteen years of creating Improvised Life, it’s time for me to follow a new path that’s been quietly unfolding, and bring this chapter to a close.
MY HOPE is for Improvised Life’s rich archive to remain open indefinitely—a place for discovery and return. I leave the door open to sharing the occasional new post.
THANK YOU for being part of the long improvisation that is Improvised Life and its wide-ranging explorations in inventive living, from home design and cooking, to productivity and self-expression, to matters of the spirit and heart. It’s been a joy to see its essential philosophy resonating with so many people: That the answers to our challenges lie all around us waiting to be found, that constraints can yield unexpected treasures. It remains a sustaining worldview for navigating our wild, not-easy, fantastically beautiful life.
Thousands of examples of possibility thinking are here for you when you need reminders or inspiration, illumination or surprise.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU to those who have given their financial support. You have made it possible for Improvised Life to live in the world. If you wish to make changes to your donation, you can do so by logging into your DonorBox account. This FAQ explains how to manage donations, which are still very much appreciated.
With gratitude for the joy, generosity, kindness, humor, creativity, community and “beingthere” you’ve shared with me over the years.

Thank you, Sally! You have been a truly inspirational spirit in my life.
I feel like a lost a friend when Improvised life, and you Sally, closed this chapter. But I look around my house and see design choices that came from here, poetry I turn to, and an outlook that was informed by this improvised friend. Thank you.
Dearest Sally,
I am sending you—in your own wonderful words—a BIG FAT THANK YOU! I am so grateful for you and all that you’ve poured into improvised life.
From the very beginning, you’ve so generously shared my work here, my family, and my Sicilian mother-in-law Lucia’s ethereal eggplant parmigiana, as well as our perennial August ritual of crushing thousands of pounds of tomatoes into passata.
Like many of us reacting to your news today, I want to reiterate that you’ve inspired me in ways big and small—including planting the seed for what would become my Side Gig SUPERSALT. Your Tuscan herb salt recipe from The Improvisational Cook inspired me to improvise my way into a seasoning salt with a boldly garlic-y Southern Italian accent.
Thank you for your generosity, your encouragement, and for always making space for curiosity, flavor, joy, and, quoting you again, ‘belly laughs.’
Signing off with a BIG FAT HUG! Love, Anthony
Thank you deeply Josette. I’m very happy to know that Improvised Life has been a force in your life.
Thank you dear Anthony for all that you contributed to Improvised Life over the years, and for being so much a part of it. I’m happy to know that it reverberated so deeply and inspired you to do your own amazing thing.
Thank you Pamela for being part of Improvised Life.
