It has been quite a time the past couple of weeks or so, navigating wild technical issues with Improvised Life, and big personal questions. Just in the nick of time, I came across this passage from Just Kids, Patti Smith’s memoir of finding her artistic voice. It is the secret of improvisation she learned from Sam Shepard, one that I have accessed my whole life.
