We found this short video made for kids curiously clarifying. “Are You Normal?” explains the origin of idea that has become a source of so much modern anxiety, and deconstructs it.
…time and time again, so-called normal descriptions of our bodies, minds, and perceptions have turned out to match almost no one. And yet a lot of the world is constructed on a foundation of normalcy.
It is affirming of our many kinds of oddness, uniqueness, diversity. And relieves some of the constraints that creep into our heads. Of course, all the people we admire and feature on Improvised Life are singularly original and definitely NOT normal.
We are reminded of the great Betty White in this deeply wonderful Saturday Night Live sketch:
If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.
